Jewelers and diamond businesses
Group Health Benefits for Jewelers and Diamond District Businesses
Jewelry stores, workshops, setters, wholesalers and diamond dealers are often small, family run and built around a few skilled people. We set up group health and benefits for these companies in New York, from 47th Street in Manhattan to Queens and Long Island, and we look after the owners too.
Who this is for
Small teams with a lot riding on a few people
A typical jewelry business has an owner or two partners, family members on the payroll, a bench jeweler or setter whose skill is hard to replace, and a few people on sales or the office side. When one of them gets sick or leaves, the whole shop feels it.
In New York, we have group plans for businesses of any size, so a three person workshop and a fifty person wholesaler can both offer real coverage. You deal with the same brokers for the company plan and for the owners’ own coverage.
What we set up
Benefits for your staff
Group health
Fully insured plans, and for many smaller groups, level-funded plans. We compare networks, deductibles and drug lists, and model what each employee pays, so you can see the cost to the business and to your people before you decide.
Dental and vision
Group dental and vision plans that sit alongside the health plan.
Group life and disability
Basic life insurance for every employee, extra coverage employees can buy for themselves, and short and long-term disability. Fine hand work depends on healthy eyes and hands, and disability coverage protects a paycheck if an injury keeps someone off the bench.
New York DBL and PFL
New York requires most employers to carry disability benefits (DBL) and paid family leave (PFL). We set them up and keep them in step with your payroll.
Year-round service
ID cards, new hires, people leaving, claims that went wrong and billing mix-ups. Your staff can call us instead of waiting on an insurer’s phone line, and you can get back to the counter.
Owners and partners
Protect the business you built
Many jewelry companies are partnerships or family firms that the owners plan to pass on. These policies help the business keep going if a key person dies or can’t work.
Key-person life insurance
The company owns a policy on a founder, a lead buyer or a master craftsman and receives the benefit if that person dies. It can help pay to find a replacement or steady the business through the change.
Buy-sell funding
Life insurance on each partner, so the others have money to buy a partner’s share from their family. Your attorney writes the agreement. We help size and place the coverage.
Executive disability
Extra disability income for owners and senior people whose pay is higher than a group plan’s monthly limit.
Owners with 1 to 3 people
A shorter path for very small shops. Start the business owner form.
Your renewal
Already have a plan?
If you already have coverage and your renewal went up, we can still help. We typically start about 120 days before your renewal date. We collect your census, your plan summary and last year’s renewal, ask your current insurer to explain any increase, then put the options side by side and model what employees will pay. You decide about 30 days out, and we handle the paperwork, employee notices and enrollment.
If you like your current plan, a broker of record letter lets us service it without changing it. Read our guide: Your group health renewal went up. Here is what to do before you sign.
Questions jewelers ask us
Can a small jewelry shop get a group health plan in New York?
Yes. In New York, we have plans for businesses of any size. Call us and we’ll walk you through what applies to your company.
Can family members who work in the business be covered?
Tell us who is on the payroll, including relatives, and we’ll check what each plan allows before you apply.
How are you paid?
On most group plans, the insurance company pays us a commission, and it is part of the premium. Ask us at any time and we’ll tell you what we’re paid on your plan.
What do you need to quote our group?
Your employee census, your current plan summary and your renewal letter if you have one. We send you a secure link for the files. Please don’t email them, and our forms never ask for Social Security numbers or health details.
